Explanation 説明
Set a particular circumstance, period, or position in which an event takes place. This is a formal expression, not a direct equivalent of because. Distinguish it from causal to atte and from the verb au in jiko ni atte, to have an accident.

にわたって emphasizes an extended range or period. を通じて can mean throughout a period or through an intermediary. を中心に identifies a focus; において/における sets a context, and にあって formally describes a particular circumstance.
